Book Review: Photography tips in 'Captured By the Light'

(New Riders, $ 54.95) is a book of wedding photography tips from a master.

But anyone with at least a passing interest in photography and technology can learn a lot from him, even if they have no interest in marriage.

Ziser offers tips on composition, lighting, posing, photographing large groups, and make the most of digital SLR cameras the most popular and flash equipment.

Ziser opts for the traditional poses to make a person look their best. Yet his work is contemporary enough to not look like it belongs in a Sears photo studio.He works with the latest cameras (he loves the Canon 5D Mark II and 7D digital SLR) and pushed to their limits. (He even wrote a light on a subject using a flashlight he took at Target.)

My favorite section was about to take the Canon or Nikon Speedlight accessory to new heights with the technical rebound. The worst thing you can with these flashes is the lead furnaces in the face of someone writing Ziser, as it will produce hard shadows. But since the head moves in flash 90 degrees or 180 degrees for directions, it offers ways to bounce the light smoother results.He loves to bounce on everything that is white, and usually a white wall nearby.

Wedding Planning Milestones

For the first time since I arrived home from South Africa, I took a breath. Since yesterday, Major and I can officially have a wedding, even if we do nothing else but to send invitations. Specifically, the following are considered Off My infinitely long list of tasks:

Church of the receiving site dress Bridesmaid Dresses DJ (Hal Mealor, highly recommended by my unofficial wedding planning DR) Rehearsal Dinner Photographer (Scott Wang Photography, reserving them last night, they also come highly recommended and I could not be happier!)

Now of course we intend to do more than that - flowers, favors, hair / makeup, jewelry, cake, blah blah blah - but in reality, at the end of the day, I could have what marriage is! So now, my friends, I'm taking a deep breath, relax and think about these things after my little vacation.

To celebrate these achievements, the major and I wasted after our meeting with the photographer OK Cafe. I am ... sigh ... burger ... and we split a Hot Fudge Sundae.

Another big piece of news - The Major and I were selected as finalists in the Lucky in Love story contest the commitment I went several months ago. As most of you know, our history is pretty incredible when I saw the contest I knew we had chances to win. I was notified last night that we're finally up and were invited to a wrap-up party where they will announce the winner next Wednesday! Wish us luck!
